Wireless WLAN launched at Kamppi Shopping Centre

Kamppi Shopping Centre now has a wireless local area network (WLAN) which enables internet access by laptop or mobile phone. A WLAN Connection costs €2 per day, €7 per week or €15 per month and can be paid for either by SMS message or by bank or credit card.

Kamppi’s ‘FifiWifi’ network, supplied by Omni-Directional Communication Products (OCP) Oy, is the first network to be built in Finland using new base station technology and the cutting edge ‘True4G’ system, developed by Wireless LAN Systems Oy of Finland. Thanks to this new base station technology, both internet connections and web-based VoIP services as well as IP-TV connections run more reliably and with practically no interference from other base stations.

”The range of these new base stations is many times greater than that of older stations, hence enabling us to provide reasonably priced yet extensive network coverage, both indoors and outside”, says Managing Director Peter Tapio of OCP Oy.

The ‘Fifi’ network is available at all floors of Kamppi, and also outside, in the immediate vicinity of the shopping centre. In the city centre it is also available around the Railway Station, in Mannerheimintie from the Hesperia Park up to the Swedish Theatre and in the Esplanade, all the way to the Katajanokka ferry terminal. Within the network’s coverage area, a connection may also be used whilst on the move.
